The aim of the Institute for Volunteering Research is to develop knowledge and understanding of volunteering in a way that is relevant to practitioners and policy makers. The site provides an outline of the work of the Institute as well as detailed summaries of research that it has undertaken.

The United Nations Volunteers programme (UNV) is the volunteer arm of the United Nations which supports sustainable human development globally through the promotion of volunteerism. It is universal, inclusive and embraces volunteer action in all its diversity. It values free will, commitment, engagement and solidarity, which are the foundations of volunteerism.

Whether you belong to a community group, charity or other non-profit body VolResource can help by providing the most up to date and useful information on anything to do with running a voluntary organisation.

The site contains all aspects of the voluntary sector including Project Scotland, the national youth volunteering scheme as well as any contemporary issues in relates to volunteering such as social inclusion, equality and volunteering.

If you are thinking of volunteering then maybe you can consider being part of the Befriending project. Befriender provides help to those who are isolated due to health illness, disability or any other social disadvantage. It offers supportive and reliable relationship and the results can be significant!
