Key priority:
Increase awareness and understanding of volunteering and the voluntary sector

To be achieved by:

  • Promote the voluntary / volunteering sector and VA's services
  • Support participation in volunteering and voluntary activity
  • Embed a robust culture of volunteering and voluntary activity

Key priority:
Grow Social Capital* and the Social Economy**

To be achieved by:

  • Assist new and existing volunteering opportunities, and voluntary organisations to develop
  • Build skills, confidence, knowledge, experience and networks 
  • Support community learning, development and enterprise

*Social Capital is the skills, knowledge, experience, confidence and networks of individuals  in order to provide a social benefit.

**The social economy is part of the non-profit sector that can generate an income and/or deliver an economic benefit.


Key priority:
Raise the Voluntary Voice

To be achieved by:

  • Provide information and support for people to come together around common issues
  • Remove barriers to participation and promote inclusion
  • Ensure effective representation in decision-making (locally & nationally)

Key priority:
Continuously improve and review the management of Voluntary Action

To be achieved by:

  • Invest in VA's committee, staff and volunteers 
  • Secure and maintain adequate levels of funding, resources and equipment to meet the ongoing needs of the organisation and achieve the desired outcomes
  • Develop and maintain relevant monitoring and evaluation procedures, ensure commitment to quality and celebrate success
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and legislation
